Check PLC and interface compatibility
A protocol name is not a compatibility guarantee. Test the exact controller, firmware, interface and workflow before deployment.
Check the installed release and the agreed project scope before using a feature.
Qualification checklist
| Connection | Check before acceptance |
|---|---|
| Siemens S7 data collection | CPU and firmware, connection permissions, tag addressing and read load. |
| Modbus TCP | Unit ID, register map, data types, byte order and polling interval. |
| Modbus RTU | Supported serial interface, wiring, termination, baud rate, parity and unit ID. |
| Routed engineering access | Client OS, engineering software, manual target IP and approved operations. Layer-2 discovery is not bridged. |
| USB or serial gateway | Exact Box model, installed release, adapter identity, client driver and exclusive-use requirements. |
| ERP or other application | Project-specific API, authentication, data mapping and failure handling. |
Separate reading from engineering access
A data collector reads the configured values. A routed engineering session can allow writes through the selected protocol. Do not treat it as a protocol-level read-only connection.
Ethernet, USB and serial features have separate hardware and operating-system qualification requirements. A successful test on one controller or board does not qualify another. Confirm the released combination with Orenda.
Record the result
- Record the hardware, firmware, app and client versions.
- Test correct values, timestamps, reconnect behavior and expected load.
- Record which operations passed and which remain untested.
- Approve only the tested scope for production use.
